(Calgary, AB — March 17, 2022) King Eddy is excited to announce the return of classical music on Sunday afternoons! Presented by the National Music Centre (NMC), the concert series will feature some of Canada’s brightest classical talents paired with a delicious brunch menu.
NMC Presents: King Eddy Classical will happen at the historic King Eddy every Sunday afternoon at 12:00 pm from April 10 to June 26. Each ticket includes admission and a prix-fixe brunch. Tickets are $40 (+GST) per person. A 20% gratuity will also be added during online checkout, so you can leave your wallet at home.
Choose from three brunch options specially created by the King Eddy’s Chef for this series: Grilled tomato and asparagus cornbread toast, slow-roasted brisket hash, or blueberry buttermilk pancakes. And what’s brunch without a mimosa or a caesar? You also get one drink included with your ticket!
“After piloting our afternoon classical series at the King Eddy in 2020, we received such an overwhelmingly positive response that we knew we had to bring it back,” said Andrew Mosker, President and CEO of NMC. “This weekly series will once again bring together world-class musicians in an intimate setting with a brunch menu that can’t be beat – it’s the perfect combination!”
NMC Presents: King Eddy Classical schedule:
Jens Lindemann is the first classical brass player to ever receive the Order of Canada and the leading trumpet soloist in Canada’s history. An internationally recognized virtuoso, his work has garnered him multiple Juno Award and Grammy nominations. Hear repertoire from the Juno-nominated and Vienna International Music Gold Medal-winning recording, “Bach and Brahms Reimagined,” as well as Brahms trio Op. 40, and Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. Also works by Astor Piazzolla, “Fats” Waller, and more.
Classical pianist and composer Kevin Chen is a winner of multiple international piano competitions, including the youngest ever of the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition at 16 years old.
Founded in 2021, the Peaks + Prairies Ensemble is an Alberta-based artist collective featuring a large and diverse roster of performers. For this concert, Ensemble musicians Lev Nesterov (violin), Anna Stube (viola), Ine Coetzee (cello), and Christine Sul (piano) will present a program of masterpieces written for piano quartet, which will include established repertoire paired with unjustly forgotten compositions and more modern avant-garde works.
Through its concert series, New Works Calgary supports the creation and performance of contemporary concert music and brings together a confluence of creative energies from composers, musicians, and adventurous listeners.
