Join us for the CCMA OFF COUNTRY Music Festival, happening September 8-11 during Country Music Week! Over 60 artists will be performing in a variety of unique spaces along the Music Mile and in various venues across Calgary.

We can’t wait to bring you two free nights of live music featuring artists who play country music on the fringes. On September 10, visit the historic King Eddy for a legendary lineup including Starpainter, Ryan Lindsay, and Sidney May Weich.

About Starpainter

Starpainter is a folk rock band from Lethbridge, Alberta. Bury Me By My Family is the culmination of several years spent writing and performing together across western Canada. The band exists in the neatly carved out spaces between rock and country and pop. They wear their influences on their sleeves, showcasing strong songwriting and an affinity for gently psychedelic alt-country tones. Bury Me By My Family was recorded at Moose Farm Studio, out in the country north of Edmonton, AB. The space contributed to the sound of their debut record — a familial and rural vibe can be felt throughout this set of songs. On Bury Me By My Family, they have constructed a narrative of beauty, love, fear, and loss without seeming either too sweet or too sorrowful. The songs are steeped in the tradition of prairie-born artistry with a pop sensibility that defies their youth. What it all comes down to is a carefully curated collection of fine songs that set Starpainter up for regular rotation for years to come.

About Ryan Lindsay

Raised on the Alberta prairies, Ryan Lindsay brings his strong country roots into his contemporary country sound. Lindsay is a CCMA nominee, 3x Country Music Alberta award winner, and making strides in the Country Music scene.

A songwriter and storyteller, Lindsay has a sound that contains a clear nod towards classic country and roots music. Lindsay is a genuine outdoorsman, deeply influenced by his background as a backcountry guide. His lyrics often point to the Rocky Mountains, living in the Canadian North, and growing up in the Prairies.

His voice has a presence that is reminiscent of ’90s country, and his catalogue of songs include a diverse mix of instrumentation – from acoustic-driven bluegrassy ballads to up-tempo songs with gritty Telecaster and steel guitar. As a showman Ryan Lindsay is loud and proud about his love for country and roots music. He carries a captivating energy on stage that creates and engaging live experience.
