Desmond Day, a singer-songwriter from Vancouver Island, is teaming up with JOI Guitars to produce a new single, “Equilibrium.” The song will be performed live at the King Eddy in Calgary on May 20.

This event will showcase luthier Reuben Forsland’s exceptional craftsmanship through Desmond’s performance on the Equilibrium guitar, which will be filmed and recorded in front of a live audience.

JOI Guitars built the Equilibrium guitar as a tribute to Reuben’s father’s struggles with addiction while living above the iconic King Eddy. After the show, the guitar will be on display in the National Music Centre’s Showcase: Guitars exhibition.

Desmond Day live at the King Eddy promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

About Desmond Day

Des Larson, known professionally as Desmond Day, is a Canadian singer-songwriter with humble origins on Vancouver Island, B.C. Des’ musical journey began while attending high school in the Comox Valley where he gravitated toward fellow classmates who shared a deep passion for music. After graduating Des moved to Vancouver to hone his skills as a live entertainer.

Throughout his early career, Des continued to find support from his local community. After years of songwriting and balancing his earnings as a lounge singer in the local music scene, he began work on his debut album. Desmond Day and his latest album “Space Between The Stars” includes a list of memorable songs recorded alongside Vancouver-based producer/ songwriter Jeff Dawson. Dawson is best known for developing and producing the debut, self-titled album of Daniel Powter which included the Grammy nominated (best vocal performance) hit single “Bad Day.”

Desmond and Reuben share a passion for music and long-standing friendship which led them to create an EP titled The Key to a New Experience, featuring two songs inspired by Jimi Hendrix, performed on a JOI Guitar made from the salvaged floorboards of Jimi Hendrix’s family home in Seattle.

About Reuben Forsland and JOI Guitars

Luthier Reuben Forsland delivered a custom acoustic guitar for Rock and Roll icon Slash, from Guns and Roses. The guitar was designed to fit Slash’s unique playing style and specifications and was described by Slash as “One of the most amazing acoustic guitars he’d ever played or heard.”

JOI Guitars created a series of acoustic guitars in tribute to rock legend Jimi Hendrix — Harmonic Hendrix Home Guitars™ — stamped and approved by the Hendrix family estate. The guitars were crafted from the salvaged floorboards of the demolished Hendrix family home in Seattle, making them an iconic piece of music history.

In the Summer of 2021, Desmond partnered with JOI Guitars and gathered inspiration from the life of Jimi Hendrix, and through his music, breathed new life into the story of Hendrix. Desmond’s songs are original and homegrown, blooming to life with the essence of Hendrix’s spirit and legacy

JOI Guitars built the Equilibrium guitar as a tribute to Reuben’s father’s struggles with addiction while living above the iconic King Eddy venue in Calgary, Alberta. On May 20, the guitar will be played by singer-songwriter Desmond Day at the King Eddy, showcasing the incredible story of the Equilibrium. This iconic guitar will be returned to its home in the National Music Centre’s Showcase: Guitars exhibition following the performance.
