FrogFest presents Toad Lang Syne: A New Year’s Eve Party

“For Toad Lang Syne my dear…”

Another fine year has come and gone, preparing us for the beauty and splendour of what is to come. So we’re making the most of the occasion with FrogFest. Join us as we ring in the New Year at the historic King Eddy YYC!

Toad Lang Syne is a fundraiser and celebration for FrogFest featuring some of the wonderful artists who we get to work with every year. Come dressed to impress 1920’s style and get ready to:

  • Grace the festive photo booth with your charm
  • Enjoy the scrumptious, Southern-inspired King Eddy menu
  • Dance all night to the music of The Wheel, the Alex Ginella Band, and Vescarelli/Rozitis/Gignoux

This upcoming New Year’s Eve performance is going to be captured on National Music Centre’s Rolling Stones Mobile Studio (RSM) and released on a limited number of locally pressed Vinyl. This is history in the making!

About The Wheel:
The Wheel facilitates an elaborate and colorful conversation between their instruments within the delicate and subtly complex nature of their songs. This is music presented with psychedelic sincerity through means of folk roots and rock n’ roll. With elements of sounds reminiscent to Ween, The Grateful Dead, Neil Young, and a zest of Sonic Youth when they really get into it, The Wheel thrives in expressive tonal communication. Fronted by songwriter Patrick Whitten, the group is formed of some long time favorite faces in the Calgary music community including members of The Bitterweed Draw, Copperhead, Shuffalo, Lazer Cake, and the short-lived Feeler.

About the Alex Ginella Band:
Here’s the thing about Alex, he knows how to play. Make no mistake, he knows how to work too -no one teaches themselves to play the fiddle that well without work- but it’s what he does with the spoils of the effort that sets him apart: he plays. With every leap and holler the word conjures, he throws himself into his instruments and leaves nothing out. And in the spaces between that joyful riot Alex cuts in, clear and strong, with the words of his heart. The Alex Ginella Band plays doo wop, folk, soul, jazz, and blends in other roots stylings to taste. Heart filling harmonies and thoughtful improvisation tie in to bring color to their solid foundation; they are one heck of a tasty treat for the ears. Alex Ginella (vocals/guitar/fiddle) and Matt Coldwell (double bass) reside in Toronto these days, so we feel very lucky to have them as part of this special NYE Celebration!

About Vescarelli / Rozitis / Gignoux:
Danny Vescarelli, Steve Rozitis and Jeremy Gignoux are a folk/country rock combo from Calgary. With roots travelling up Liquor Mountain they weave tapestries of the Alberta landscape and the fine folks who call this place home. Rozitis’ guitar dances with Gignoux’s fiddle as Vescarelli’s voice do-si-dos and promenades. We are thrilled to have this trio wrap a shroud over 2018 and send us forth into 2019 with illuminating rays from Country Rock Heaven.

About FrogFest:
Each year, FrogFest rings in the summer in a dreamy music festival in the woods, charging our spirits with love and igniting the fires within artists and attendees alike. The festival occurs annually on the Canada Day long weekend in the beautiful boreal forest of Clearwater County, Alberta. A stage emerges from the flora, featuring independent artists and stunning art installations. FrogFest proudly focuses on community, sustainability, and inclusiveness. It is a chance for people to connect in a natural setting that supports metamorphosis on a cultural level. All genres welcome.
