Official Launch of Groove Theory 5.0: B*Les & the Suede and The Rondel Roberts Band
Calling all groovy bands, MCs, singers, musicians, spoken word artists and enthusiasts: it’s the official launch of Groove Theory Calgary 5.0 at the King Eddy, curated by JMaj7 Music.
About this week’s Groove Theory Calgary presenters:
Producer, songwriter, composer, and guitarist, Jamil Ahmad does it all. In addition to curating the local sounds of Groove Theory Calgary, Jamil DJs groovy sounds every Thursday at #KingEddyYYC.
Flirtatious in nature, rudeboy B*les (pronounced ‘be-less’) is a playful, cheeky r&b singer. Drawing inspiration from artists such as D’Angelo, Frank Sinatra, Lauryn Hill, and Anderson Paak, love lyrics and heartbreaks are his sustenance and recreation.
Accompanied by his band, B*les & The Suede are a party wrecking crew, traversing through r&b, soul and hip-hop. This smooth ensemble unifies its style with a heavy emphasis on sultry groove.
A beautiful blend of moving grooves, throwback tunes, hip hop drops, blues riffs and bebop licks, “The Rondel Roberts Band” delivers the dance floor and dominates the stage at any given opportunity. The neo-soul/funk band is setting up shop in Calgary’s live music scene and the people are responding. With collective influences ranging from New Jack Swing to Neo-Soul and from Rock to Hip Hop, this group of young tenured musicians is the epitome of eccentrically elcletic music projects.
