Come down to the King Eddy for a night of folk tunes from Alberta’s very own John Wort Hannam.
John Wort Hannam’s Dad once said to him, “You’re dead a long time, so you better get out there and make something beautiful.” Hannam quit his teaching job, bought a guitar, wrote songs in his basement, recorded his first record, and began touring.
Since his career’s humble beginnings, he has garnered a Juno nomination, a Canadian Folk Music Award for Album of the Year, won multiple songwriting prizes, including the iconic Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Award. He penned the 2011 Alberta Winter Games official song, “Like The Northern Lights”, and “Let It Shine On”, the 50th anniversary official song of his alma mater, University of Lethbridge.
Perhaps it’s the growing list of accolades or the lofty comparisons reviewers have made to Tom Russell, W.O. Mitchell and Margaret Laurence, but whatever it is, Lethbridge, AB based, folk-roots musician, John Wort Hannam is making music with a new-found confidence these days. 15 years into his career and he is far and away writing his best material yet.
