Midnight Channel: Alien Love Songs (Album Release) with Joel Jeschke & Nate Waters Trio

Join us at the legendary King Eddy on September 13 for a celebration of jazz from across Alberta — three bands, three cities, one night.

This is jazz for now — honest, unexpected, and deeply Albertan. Come be part of it!

Midnight Channel (Lethbridge)
This is the album release for Alien Love Songs, the long-awaited follow-up to their debut Gemini Sunrise, which hit #10 on the National Earshot! Jazz Charts. Midnight Channel blends 1960s cosmic free jazz with post-bop, Japanese fusion, and neo-soul grooves — a sound that feels both grounded in tradition and open to the future. Their live sets are electric: full of emotion, improvisation, and joy. Whether you’re deep into jazz or just curious, this band meets you where you are and takes you somewhere else.

Joel Jeschke (Edmonton)
Joel is a drummer and composer with roots in everything from rock to modern jazz. His debut record Time & Place was called “a very high level contemporary jazz album” by Pan M 360 — a collection that shifts between tension and calm, chaos and melody. Joel’s music feels lived-in, thoughtful, and always searching for something just out of reach.

Nate Waters Trio (Calgary)
Calgary saxophonist Nate Waters brings a powerful new trio with bassist Jeff Gammon and drummer Afo Fapojuwo. The group draws from post-bop traditions and modern rock structures, with a focus on original music — tight, expressive, and ready to record their debut album this August. Think Trio JeepyVillage Vanguard, and the raw spirit of Elvin Jones.
