About the Nate Waters Jazz Quartet:
Nate Waters is a saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist from Calgary, and has performed and recorded in a number of disparate musical iterations. He has contributed to the city’s musical fringe as half of the freely improvised Friesen/Waters Duo and as a part of the minimalist quartet Nobody Say Anything, while performing more conventionally with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Prime Time Big Band. Last year he released his first recorded foray into straight-ahead jazz, the Nate Waters Quartet’s Fact Contrafact EP. He has also featured in pop groups such as Cable-Knits and Hunter-Gatherer, and recorded and appeared with Samantha Savage Smith, Aleem Khan, Prepared, and Raleigh.

Pianist Augustine Yates can be heard regularly in both the Toronto and Calgary jazz scenes. He is currently attending Humber College, where he studies under Juno-winning pianist Robi Botos. Having studied classical piano since the age of five, Augustine fuses his jazz style with classical sensibilities in order to craft a unique voice for himself.

Jonathan Wielebnowski is an emerging Canadian bassist, composer, and bandleader based between the Toronto and Calgary music scenes. Currently in his final year of the Humber College Bachelor of Music program, Jonathan has had the opportunity to study under a multitude of great Canadian jazz musicians such as Kirk MacDonald, Al Kay, Mike Downes, Neil Swainson, Kieran Overs, Jon Maharaj, Nancy Walker, Brian Dickinson, and Lorne Lofsky.

Jacob Wutzke is a Toronto-based drummer from Calgary, Alberta. Noted for his exceptional ability to listen and improvise in the moment, he has become an in-demand sideman in the creative music scene and continues to compose, perform and teach music regularly. He has been seen performing at jazz festivals and venues across the country including the TD Edmonton Jazz Festival, the TU Jazz Festival, The Rex Jazz and Blues Bar, the Yardbird Suite, Lula Lounge and many more.
