Join Nigerian-born neo-soul artist Riwo and Calgary indie-soul artist Rome IX at the legendary King Eddy for National Music Centre’s CIBC Summer Series on July 19.

About Riwo:

Riwo Theo Egor is a Nigerian born singer and songwriter. She is the lead vocalist of the band Melafrique. She has been performing in Edmonton since she moved here in 2015, and has done so alongside various artists, both local and international. Riwo has performed at many major venues in Edmonton and beyond, with her band Melafrique, and as a solo artist. She is very passionate about sharing messages and personal stories through music, and enjoys doing so through the Neo-soul, R&B and Afro-Jazz styles of music. She believes in the power of music to heal wounds, and cause people to connect with each other on so many levels. One of her biggest goals in life is for her music to bring unity in the diversity of our crazy world.

Riwo’s sound goes beyond the boundaries of one specific genre, so the way to best describe her music would be: a fusion of genres. However, also alternative/indie comes close in describing Riwo’s style of music.

About Rome IX:

Rome IX is a Canadian Indie-Soul artist, musician, actor, and aspiring filmmaker hailing from Calgary. With a diverse range of talents, this multidisciplinary artist finds inspiration in personal and observed experiences, always striving to understand the complexities of the human condition. Rome’s artistic journey has been shaped by his love for deep lyrics, storytelling, and soulful arrangements, influenced by renowned artists like Jason Mraz, Miguel, and Stevie Wonder.

Recently, Rome has been finding new audiences with his releases, including the tracks “Right Here” and “LoTR”. Currently, he is in the final stages of production for his debut album, “Losing in Vain”.

Rome’s connection with his audience truly flourishes when he takes the stage, whether performing with a band, solo acoustic sets, or through live-looping. He has graced the stages of notable festivals like ‘Moonlight Market’ and ‘Beakerhead’, as well as various well-known venues in Calgary such as ‘The Palomino’ and ‘The King Eddy’. Opening for artists such as Josh Sahunta, King of Foxes, and K-Riz, Rome continues to showcase his music and talent.

Rome’s passion for music ignited during his high school years, shortly after picking up the guitar and teaching himself to play. He soon began writing his own songs, showcasing his innate talent for crafting captivating melodies and heartfelt lyrics. His first production credit came on the track “Deep In My Heart,” which he worked on with Trinidadian Gospel artist Mekaiel.

Beyond his own artistic endeavors, Rome’s music and productions have made an impact in the local Calgary scene. His work has been featured in short films and projects by fellow Calgary artists such as ‘Jeziah’, ‘Twizzie Ramos’ and ‘Zacarias’, further solidifying his presence and influence within the creative community.

With dedication to his craft and a desire to create music that resonates with listeners on a profound level, Rome IX is an artist who continues to build and evolve.
