About Robin Cisek:
One of CBC Searchlights top 100 artists two years in a row, Robin Cisek, is a Metis artist from Edmonton who creates melodic electro-pop with an alternative flair. The Indigenous Superstar’s 2022, “Best Emerging Artist”, rose into her music career after years of struggle with health challenges. These struggles often influence the lyrical content of her music. Cisek’s unique melodies, organic sound and pop lyrics have been compared to BANKS, VÉRITÉ, Ruelle, and Robyn.
Her most recent single, “Hey Disaster” (August 2022) charted on the Mediabase Activator HOT AC at #54 and CHR radio charts at #47 on US radio. “Hey Disaster” also cemented Cisek’s spot in the CBC Searchlight 2023’s top 100, her second time in the top 100 since her release of “Memories” in 2022. Robin Cisek’s, “Zeus” (June 2022) charted at #2 on NCI’s Indigenous Music Countdown making this Cisek’s 6th time charting on the IMC including a #1 for “Waiting on You” in 2019. “Zeus” has been published in 21 different articles with raving positive reviews. This is not the first time Cisek has created a buzz in music blogs and publications. Cisek and her music have been published internationally with articles in Illustrate Magazine (USA), York Calling (UK), Outloud Culture (Canada), a feature in Canadian Musician Magazine and many others.
In 2021, Cisek released her debut album, Delicate Minds, a concept album that discusses mental health. “Memories”, a song from the album, garnered over 26,000 views on Youtube and received Awards from a number of film festivals including an Award of Merit from the INDIEFest Film Awards (2022), Best Music Video from the Edmonton Short Film Awards (2022), Best Music Video in Oz Indie Film Festival and an Official selection of ImagineNATIVE 2023.
Robin’s most notable performances include opening for LA’s Starcrawler, Calgary Pride, the first 100 chosen to perform at Canadian Music Week 2023 and Long Day’s night festival where she opened for Polaris Music Prize shortlist and Pop Artist of the Year (WCMA), Begonia.
At the start of Cisek’s career, she was mentored by Alex Houton, an artist development specialist based in New York City, and created and released her first two commercial singles. Mentorship is still an important part of Cisek’s career, Since her career started, she has participated in the APTN, RBCxMusic Indigenous Music Accelerator 2021, the Indigenous Women in Music residency Manitoba Music and in 2023 SOCAN’s EquityX production program. Cisek is also a very active Artist Mentor, consultant and panelist in her local music community and across Canada. She has worked as a panelist with Alberta Music, and IndieWeek and a one on one mentor for the Quaggavuit Program, BC Jumpstart Program, and a number of local artists. Robin also runs workshops with large groups of artists through her YEG Collective Networking events. Most recently, Robin co-founded her group called The Yeg Ecosystem which plans and coordinates learning and networking opportunities in the Edmonton Area for creatives, musicians, photographers artists and entrepreneurs in creative fields.
