NMC Presents: CIBC Summer Series — Deep Love Revival with Hip Hip Thursday

Deep Love Revival and Hip Hip Thursday take the stage for the National Music Centre’s CIBC Summer Series at the legendary King Eddy on August 14.

About Deep Love Revival:

Deep Love Revival has always been about healing those wounds and lifting you up through groove and good song. This 5 piece disco-rock & sunshine-soul group warms you up with original self-empowerment anthems. Pieced together by lead Ainsley Christine, this Calgary based group has grown and evolved since it’s birth in 2018 simply by making music and having some fun together. With west coast influences, blended with country-fried sound, this juicy ensemble always leaves you screaming the question: “IF I LOVE MYSELF, WHAT MORE DO I REALLY NEED?!”

About Hip Hip Thursday:

Hip Hip Thursday formed organically as a cooperative of six musicians who met at the weekly jams on (you guessed it) Thursdays. The resulting project maintained a creative space to speak truth to power and as a band, they reflect the diversity of talents Moh’kins’tsis has to offer.

Hip Hip Thursday blends the rich, improvisational essence of jazz with the rhythmic, lyrical, and cultural depth of hip-hop in a six piece arrangement. This fusion creates a unique soundscape that honours the traditions of both genres while charting new creative territories with influences of funk, indie, and rock. HHT’s music is not just about sound but about storytelling, emotion, and connection to important events and realities of the world around us.

Hip Hip has had the honour of playing numerous shows in the prairies, Calgary’s Sled Island Festival, Calgary Music’s SoundOff Summit Showcase, featured on CBC Radio 1 Calgary’s Eye Opener, and are part of the Arts Commons TD Incubator 2024-2025 Cohort.

The group’s musical influences run wide and deep as a diverse collective of six musicians from around the world. Some might describe Hip Hip Thursday’s sound as similar to The Roots, The Internet, Avantdale Bowling Club, Rage Against the Machine, Home Brew, and many others as they cross genres with six vocalists and multi-instrumentalists.
