SHY FRiEND and Sunset Sabotage take the stage for the National Music Centre’s CIBC Summer Series at the legendary King Eddy on August 23.
About SHY FRiEND:
SHY FRiEND is an emotional alt-pop band from the minds of classical & jazz musicians in the Calgary area. Headed by artist & content creator Jubs, this group has been making waves across Canada for their explosive ideas & passionate live shows. Hailing from the vibrant Canadian indie-pop scene, SHY FRiEND has carved her niche with a passion for deep, moving sound, accompanied by honest lyrics and florid instrumentation. Her music is a blend of raw emotion, introspection, and dramatic orchestral moments, creating a sonic tapestry that resonates with listeners on a profound level. Her debut album, “frank,” released in the summer of 2023, was entirely written and produced by SHY FRiEND, garnering praise from her online community and establishing her as a rising talent in the indie-pop scene.
About Sunset Sabotage:
Their unique blend of punk, funk, emo and alternative is refreshing while still staying true to the rock and roll spirit, Sunset Sabotage have quickly gone from small rock band playing at dive bars, to your new favourite indie alternative band that will feel like a wild ride through the many moods of your favourite alternative music. This Canadian Calgary-based band—Tyler (guitar, vocals), Kristen (synth, vocals), Cam (bass), and Romer (drums)—has crafted a sound that’s as diverse as it is dynamic.
They made their debut in April 2022 with the single ‘Lana,’ a track that introduced the tone of Sunset from the start. By October 2022, ‘Falling Fast’ followed, showcasing a deeper, more evolved side of their heart. With their latest single ‘Couldn’t Get Enough,’ Sunset Sabotage is set to take the alternative scene by storm once again.

Their upcoming EP self-titled ‘Sunset Sabotage’ features collaborations with the top producers and mixers in the Calgary music scene, such as Kevin Davis, Daniel Swinamer and Cory Bitner. The up and coming EP has a blend of themes such as, independence, nostalgia and heartbreak., which will leave you wanting more.
