THE BOURBON
Basil Hayden Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey: Legend has it, in 1796 Master Distiller Basil Hayden Sr. broke ‘the rules’ by mixing small grains into the mash of a traditional corn base. A Maryland transplant unafraid to stand out amidst the residing establishment, Basil conjectured that the spicy flavor of rye would be a striking complement to the sweet smoothness of corn in his distillery’s standard bourbon. And much to the chagrin of the traditionalist set, Basil was right. His recipe was a masterpiece, resulting in a unique, singular small batch bourbon whiskey that was blessed with rich hints of peppermint, notes of pepper, slight citrus overtones, and a spicy, warming finish. Artfully aged at a relatively mild 80 proof, Basil Hayden is as novel and delectable a bourbon whiskey as it was when the master distiller rolled out his first barrel over 200 years ago. Marked by a rich cascade of aromas and flavors, Basil Hayden is still a small batch bourbon, but with broader appeal. And just as it was in 1796, the only ‘rule’ to enjoying our Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey is that it should be done responsibly.
Basil Hayden 10 YO Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey: Basil Hayden whiskeys are known for standing out in the crowd. The distinctive flavor of Basil Hayden Bourbon was originally inspired by the legend of a family recipe said to date back to 1796 when Master Distiller Basil Hayden Sr. broke ‘the rules’ and went off-the- beaten-path mixing the spiciness of rye with the smoothness of corn to create a light-bodied, mixable, and smooth yet a little spicy bourbon. Crafted using the same high rye bourbon recipe that makes Basil Hayden Bourbon so unique, this special release is aged 10 years, adding complexity and deeper flavor to an already intriguing spirit. This golden amber bourbon offers a rare take on the Basil Hayden Bourbon we love, featuring big oak aromas with hints of char, vanilla and rye. The wood flavors are complemented by a perfect balance of caramel sweetness and rye spice. Bottled at a smooth 80 proof, the finish is lightly smoky with a subtle hint of char, a memorable final note for an exceptional spirit.
Basil Hayden Dark Rye Whiskey: Expanding from the unique high rye recipe that has always made Basil Hayden Bourbon so uncommon comes a release that focuses on the art of blending two distinctive rye whiskies with just a touch of port to unveil an entirely new taste discovery. This limited release explores the harmonious blending of 3 distinct liquid profiles for one memorable whiskey. It begins with Kentucky Rye, providing a firm base of spicy rye, rich oak, dried fruit and subtle molasses undertones to build on. Canadian Rye from our award-winning Alberta Distillery is skillfully layered in. This unique rye provides depth to the notes of dried fruit and a more viscous mouth feel than a traditional rye. It’s then finished with a touch of California Port blended in directly to add complementary juicy, ripe fruit without muddying the existing wood notes. The end result is a whiskey full in flavor and still delicately nuanced.Basil Hayden dark rye is always perfect sipped on the rocks as well as in a Boulevardier.
Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon Whiskey: Old Grand-Dad was a distiller named Basil Hayden who made his name by distilling a bourbon whiskey made with a higher percentage of rye which leads to a lighter, spicier bourbon. Basil Hayden passed along the art of distilling to his son and then, in turn, to his grandson. During prohibition, Old Grand-Dad was produced by a pharmaceutical company, the American Medicinal Spirits Co., and was one of the few distilled spirits permitted to be prescribed as medicine. It was a popular time to be sick. Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon Whiskey is 100 proof and aged four years.
THE STUDIO
Dubbed the “Sistine Chapel of rock ’n’ roll,” this historic mobile recording studio was used by British rock legends Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and the Rolling Stones. Conceived by Rolling Stones tour manager Ian Stewart and built in 1968, the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio (RSM) was the first ever professional mobile recording studio, built to accommodate the band’s wild 24-hour lifestyle. Equipped with a state-of-the-art Helios recording console, the RSM soon gained popularity among other musicians, leading to the creation of countless classic rock albums. Acquired by National Music Centre in 2001, the RSM has since been restored to its former glory and is now parked next to the King Eddy stage where it’s available for artists to record. Many legendary albums were recorded using the RSM, including:
